5.2 Design Live Loads

The design live loads for the new building shall comply with the requirements of the Chicago Building Code. The classification of spaces in the structure shall be carefully reviewed during the design process. Certain spaces, such as libraries, have higher design live load requirements that require a more robust structure to meet the code requirements. The actual use of the space shall be carefully considered when determining the naming and design requirements.

5.2.1 Vibration

The effects of vibration due to dynamic live loads shall be considered during design. Spaces in which dynamic activity will occur shall not be constructed above or in close proximity to educational spaces. Concrete pads shall be provided at mechanical equipment or other items that may create excessive noise or vibrations at the structure.
