Existing Fire alarm systems shall remain in operation until the new system and respective devices have been tested and approved for use.
New Fire Alarm systems shall meet the requirements of Volume 3, Chapter 9.2.6. Fire Alarm System.
Buildings with separate street addresses shall have separate fire alarm systems with their own fire alarm control panel, fire alarm annunciator panel, city tie box, etc. The fire alarm systems shall be interfaced so that a trouble signal is transmitted to the other systems in case of an alarm to any of the buildings. Coordinate all proposed work with the Fire Prevention Bureau.
Facility additions/annexes with the same address shall be served by the same fire alarm system as the main building. Coordinate all proposed work with the Fire Prevention Bureau. If the existing building fire alarm system is not able to be expanded to accept the new annex, the existing building fire alarm system must be replaced with a new code compliant system that is capable of incorporating all new additions / annex fire alarms plus have 20% spare capacity. If Addition/Annex requirements load is unknown, provide a total of 35% spare capacity on the new system.
All visual strobes shall be synchronized by circuits and area. Existing systems shall be modified with the provision of synchronization modules.
Trouble, alarm and city tie bells shall be located at the fire alarm control panel location and the main office. Modifications to the sprinkler system and fire pump shall include connections for water flow and tamper switches.
All possible citations in regards to the existing fire alarm and sprinkler system shall be reviewed and addressed.
