1.1.3 Departmental Input

Departments within CPS serve, guide, and provide resources to parents, teachers, partners, and the community. The Capital Planning, design and construction process greatly benefits from input provided by these departments. Whether it is a new school, renovation of an auxiliary space such as an art or STEM room or the creation of an accessible changing room, department input is critical in ensuring that factors such as the appropriate curriculum, specialty program, health and safety, and/or equity are considered and addressed.

Departmental engagement should occur starting at the onset of pre-planning to obtain guidance for project development. Planning/design managers should consult with Capital leadership to ensure that the appropriate departments are included in the planning process. In addition to education focused departments such as the Department of Science or the Office of Early Childhood Education, departments such as the Office of Student Protections and Title IX, the Department of Personalized Learning and the Office of Diverse Learner and Support Services should also be considered among many others. For most projects departmental input will be an ongoing and iterative effort throughout the project to ensure that the final design incorporates the vision and mission of the district and appropriately aligns with the curriculum and other department objectives and guidelines.

Please see the CPS website for a more comprehensive list of departments that can support Capital construction projects.
