Important Update

After June 30, 2024 CPS will no longer be updating the COVID-19 Data Dashboard due to recent changes to COVID-19 reporting requirements in Illinois. The dashboard accessible below along with all prior data will be removed from this website on July 8, 2024.

You can still access data about COVID-19 activity in Chicago through CDPH's Respiratory Virus Surveillance reports and on the City's Chicago Data Portal.

Please note, as the pandemic has evolved, our dashboard has evolved to include the most relevant data. Keep in mind that numbers are dynamic and subject to change.

Total Cases
The total cases data on this page shows all cases among CPS students and staff that are reported to the District. Cases are displayed at both the District level and the individual school level; counts can be viewed by day or by week. Keep in mind that case counts are not a measure of transmission in schools and numerous studies have shown that schools are not sites of significant COVID-19 transmission.

REPORT A POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE

Daily District Cases

Adults Reported Positive: Adult cases reported to the district through the CPS contact tracing self report form, regardless of investigation status. This will include cases where an investigation has not yet started, is in progress, or closed. Because cases still under investigation may not be confirmed, case counts are dynamic and subject to change.
Students Reported Positive: Student cases reported to the district through the CPS contact tracing self report form, regardless of investigation status. This will include cases where an investigation has not yet started, or is in progress, or closed. Because cases still under investigation may not be confirmed, case counts are dynamic and subject to change.
Actionable Cases: CPS only reports Actionable Cases on our dashboards. Actionable Cases represent cases where an individual either tested positive while inside a district building or tested positive while outside a district building but entered a building while they may have been infectious. Non-Actionable Cases are cases where an individual tested positive while outside a district building and did not enter a district building while potentially infectious.
School Governance: District schools are those operated by CPS and staffed by CPS employees. Non-district schools are those operated under charter, contract, ALOP or SAFE governance.

CPS archived the 2023-24 School Year dashboard. CPS will no longer be updating the COVID-19 Data Dashboard due to recent changes to COVID-19 reporting requirements in Illinois.

November 3, 2023

Modified case totals processing to address issue where, under certain conditions, some non-COVID-19 respiratory disease cases were reported on this Dashboard. This modification resulted in the removal of 36 cases from the total.

August 21, 2023

CPS archived the 2023 Summer Dashboard and published the 2023-24 School Year Dashboard.
CPS has discontinued the collection and publishing of the following data on the 2023-24 School Year Dashboard:
- Eligible Student Vaccination Rates and CPS Employee Vaccination Stats: CPS had previously tracked uptake of the original COVID-19 vaccine, which was authorized during the 2020-2021 School Year and became more widely available during the 2021-2022 School Year. Because COVID-19 variants continue to evolve, recommendations for the vaccine are shifting to stay up to date with the most recent formulation. Therefore, tracking uptake of this original vaccine is not particularly useful in the 2023-24 School Year and beyond. Because different populations have required different variations of booster shots at different stages of the pandemic, CPS has not consistently tracked uptake of booster shots. CPS recommends families visit the vaccine webpage from the Chicago Department of Public Health for information about the latest COVID-19 vaccines that are available. Federal health officials have reported that an updated COVID-19 vaccine booster will be available as early as Fall 2023. CPS will continue to offer the latest COVID-19 vaccines to CPS students, staff, and families. Please visit cps.edu/vaccinations to find a vaccine provider, make an appointment, and get more information. - Students Opted In To Testing and Staff and Student COVID-19 Screening Testing: The District has discontinued the in-school COVID-19 testing program. Out of an abundance of caution to protect our school communities, CPS was one of the few remaining districts in the United States to use a program that regularly tested asymptomatic individuals at school. CPS has completed its transition to a rapid at-home test program where rapid tests are available for free to any student or staff member at any CPS District-managed school.
