Creative Schools Certification

The Creative Schools Certification (CSC) is a critical measurement system used by Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and Ingenuity to comprehensively track and summarize the level of arts instruction in each school in five categories from Emerging to Excelling. It provides valuable, public data that informs resource allocation, fuels strategic planning, and acts as a clear roadmap to help schools expand high-quality and equitable arts opportunities for all students.

Department of Arts Education Creative Schools Initiative

The Creative Schools Initiative is the ambitious effort by the CPS Department of Arts Education to ensure every student receives a high-quality, well-rounded education that includes the arts. Developed in response to the CPS Arts Education Plan, this Initiative is fundamentally structured around four key components:

  • Establishing Arts Liaisons in every school.
  • Utilizing the Creative Schools Certification (CSC) data system to track progress and guide strategy.
  • Offering comprehensive Creative Schools Supports like customized roadmaps.
  • Managing expanded Grants and Funding (such as the Creative Schools Fund) to provide the necessary resources for advancing arts equity across the entire district.
