Students are included if they:
- Increase their attendance by 3% or more compared to last year
- Reach an attendance rate of at least 90% this year
Why This Matters
Regular attendance is critical for learning. Students in Options schools or detention centers may have felt disconnected from their previous schools or had trouble attending regularly. Because of these challenges, this measure focuses on growth and tracks the progress students are making toward being in class more often.
What It Can & Cannot Tell You
It Can Tell You:
- Can show if students at a school are making steady progress toward regular attendance each year
- Can highlight schools that are successfully re-engaging students
- Can identify where extra support may be needed to keep students engaged
It Cannot Tell You:
- Cannot capture exactly how much students’ attendance improved
- Cannot show students’ overall attendance rate for the whole year
