Connectedness & Wellbeing

Students are more likely to show up and stay engaged when they feel connected to their school community. This section helps families understand whether students have access to activities, arts, health supports, and safe learning environments that help them feel included and motivated to come to school each day. Together, these measures highlight the conditions that support strong attendance, sustained participation, and overall wellbeing.

This section focuses on connection, participation, and school climate — not academic support inside the classroom, which appears in the Inclusive and Supportive Learning section.

How the Pieces Fit Together

Clubs, activities, and arts programs help students feel they belong. Health and wellness supports address barriers to learning. How a school handles discipline can decide how often serious issues keep students out of school. Together, these pieces help students feel part of a safe, healthy, and engaging school community.

Example

A school could offer many clubs but still have low attendance. This means students have ways to explore new interests and connect with others, but things like health, transportation, or safety may keep them from coming to school. Families could ask what barriers are keeping students from attending and how the school helps students who struggle to come to school every day.
