Curriculum & Instruction

Students learn best when strong materials, clear instruction, and meaningful assessments work together. This section helps families understand the learning experience inside the classroom — how well the curriculum is aligned to standards, how teachers support student thinking, and how the school checks understanding to guide instruction. These pieces show both how students are performing and whether the school is setting up the right conditions for long-term academic success.

How the Pieces Fit Together

High-quality curriculum guides what students learn. Strong teaching helps them make sense of it. Thoughtful assessments show what they know and what they still need. Together, these elements help students grow year after year.

Example

If a school shows strong growth but lower proficiency, it may mean teachers are helping students make important progress even if they are still catching up. Families could ask how the school uses classroom assessments to identify what students need next — and how the curriculum supports them in moving toward grade-level expectations.
