Where This Data Comes From
A comparison of the credits students actually earned to what they were expected to earn:
- Actual Credits: The number of credits a student earns while enrolled at the school
- Expected Credits: The number of credits the student would earn if they passed all classes during the time they were enrolled
Why This Matters
Options schools are designed to help students catch up quickly. Many students in these programs are older or have fallen behind their original graduation timeline. By offering accelerated opportunities, these schools help students earn credits faster so they can graduate sooner. For students in detention centers, earning these credits can also be a vital step toward a smoother transition back into a traditional school.
What It Can & Cannot Tell You
It Can Tell You:
- Can highlight schools that are successfully helping students earn credits and move toward graduation.
- Can show progress even for students who are only enrolled for a short period of time.
It Cannot Tell You:
- Cannot capture specific subjects students may be struggling with (like Math vs. English).
- Cannot explain why students may not have earned as many credits as expected.
