Where This Data Comes From
- Existing Credits: The credits students have at the beginning of the school year or, if they start mid-year, when they enroll
- A One-Year Window: Because Options schools serve students who are often enrolled for 2 years or less and move between schools, this measure looks at their success over a single year rather than the traditional four years.
Why This Matters
Earning a diploma is an important step toward success in college, careers, and other future goals. Tracking the graduation rate helps schools and the district identify where students need more support to cross the finish line and earn their diploma.
What It Can & Cannot Tell You
It Can Tell You:
- Can show whether students within range of graduation are completing high school by the end of the year.
- Can highlight schools where students may need more help to reach graduation.
It Cannot Tell You:
- Cannot explain why some students do not graduate by the end of the year—reasons may include attendance challenges, course failures, or personal circumstances.
- Cannot be used alone to judge school quality, since other measures (like learning growth and engagement) also matter.
