Celebrating Achievement in Teaching
As a district, we are proud to recognize CPS teachers who go above and beyond to support their students. During the 2024-2025 school year, 63 CPS educators became new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) and 67 educators renewed their advanced credentials.
Research shows that school districts with a high number of NBCTs positively impact student performance and lead to an increase in collaboration among teachers. More than half of all CPS schools have at least one NBCT, and we look forward to that number rising in the years to come.

A Milestone in Achievement
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Nurturing Teacher Leadership program, a partnership between the District and the Chicago Teachers Union to enable our educators to earn this prestigious credential. Since then, CPS has produced more than 2400 NBCTs, the third highest number of NBCTs of any district in the nation.

About National Board Certification

As a National Board Certified Teacher, I know firsthand how transformative this journey can be. The process challenges you to reflect deeply, refine your craft, and recommit to your students in powerful ways. Our National Board Certified Teachers represent the very best of our profession, leading with expertise, empathy, and an unwavering belief in the brilliance of Chicago's children. When we invest in teachers at this level, we invest directly in the success of every student they serve.
