Background Information
On March 19, the Chicago Board of Education voted unanimously to revoke ASPIRA Charter School Network’s charter, effective April 4, 2026. CPS is currently assisting families with identifying and transitioning to other schools to complete the 2025-26 school year.
Our goal is to ensure:
- Students continue learning with minimal disruption to their education
- Families receive clear guidance and support throughout this transition
- Students maintain access to academic, emotional, and social supports
CPS held its first informational webinar on March 5, 2026 to provide information on student transfers. You can view the presentation and watch a video of the meeting.
A second informational webinar was held on March 18, 2026. You can view the presentation and watch a video of the meeting.
A third informational webinar was held on April 2, 2026. You can view the presentation and watch a video of the meeting.
Roosevelt HS Designated Hub For 12th-Grade Students
In response to feedback from the community regarding the importance of keeping high school seniors who choose to depart ASPIRA together for the rest of the school year, CPS has determined that Roosevelt High School - 3436 W. Wilson Avenue - is the environment best suited to receive these students and keep them together while providing them the support they need to finish the school year strong.
All 12th-graders from ASPIRA Business and Finance and ASPIRA Early College are welcome to enroll at Roosevelt for the remainder of the school year, regardless of if they live within the school’s attendance boundary. High school seniors who may have already transferred to a school other than Roosevelt may stay at their newly-chosen school, or may move to Roosevelt now and complete the school year there.
To ensure a smooth transition, we ask that families of high school seniors contact the CPS Office of Innovation & Incubation (I&I) (773) 553-1530, or email contactiandi@cps.edu as soon as possible to initiate a transfer to Roosevelt High School.
Transferring to Your Neighborhood School
Per CPS policy, students may enroll in their zoned neighborhood school based on their listed home address provided by ASPIRA. Families can identify their neighborhood school using the CPS School Locator tool. Families will also receive a letter to the home address of record on file with ASPIRA containing information about their neighborhood school next week.
To learn more about the school, including course offerings, visit the school’s website or contact the school directly.
Additional Neighborhood School Options Near ASPIRA
Regardless of their zoned neighborhood school, students departing ASPIRA Business and Finance or Early College will have access to a limited number of seats at Schurz, Kelvyn Park, Foreman, Steinmetz, and Roosevelt High Schools, as long as capacity remains within the allocated spots. These schools will accept students on a rolling basis, and once all seats are filled, any students who live outside of the attendance boundaries will have to choose another school.
Please note that all five of these schools provide ESL courses to English Learners. View a full list of ESL course offerings at each school. While all four schools offer a variety of AP courses, many of which are the same courses offered at ASPIRA, space may be limited. CPS will work with families individually to find the best fit for each student.

How to Initiate a Transfer
You can share your enrollment plan with I&I by calling the office at 773-553-1530 or emailing the office at contactiandi@cps.edu.
CPS has information about whether your child has an IEP or 504 plan, or if they participate in ESL, Dual Credit, and AP courses; CPS will use this information to match your student with the appropriate support and courses to minimize disruption to your child’s learning.
Transferring to a Non-Neighborhood School
We understand that families may also wish to explore alternative options outside of their neighborhood school and/or Schurz, Steinmetz, Kelvyn Park, Roosevelt, or Foreman. Options available to you for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year include:
- Applying to a different charter school
- Transferring to another district-run school, pending seat availability
To discuss these options, please contact the Office of Innovation & Incubation at 773-553-1530 or contactiandi@cps.edu. CPS can help explain the transfer application process for schools you are interested in, and can communicate with the principals of those schools. Please note that these are not guaranteed options, and that they may involve waitlists or delayed enrollment due to enrollment policies, seat availability, and other factors.
Additional Support After Selecting a New School
After you select a new school, CPS will provide support to your family by:
- Ensuring that students’ academic records, including all IEP and 504 Plans, are successfully transferred to their new school
- Supporting students with transportation by providing Ventra cards to students to use CTA to get to school, or by helping students who qualify for bus transportation make those requests at their new school
- Connecting students with a School-Based Transition Coordinator who can support them with wrap-around services, including mentoring, tutoring, technology, and mental health support.
- Ensuring that all student fees are waived for ASPIRA students transferring into new CPS schools.
- Exploring student participation in sports overseen by the Illinois High School Association which governs high school athletics.
- Working to ensure that students enrolled in specialized programs and courses, including AP, Dual Credit, and ESL, are able to continue these programs with minimal disruption.
Additional information on these steps will be provided directly to students.
Virtual Office Hours For Additional Support
Families are encouraged to sign up for virtual office hours between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to ask questions and receive support with this transition. Schedule an appointment on the ASPIRA Transition Support calendar. You can also contact CPS at any time with questions about the transition at contactiandi@cps.edu or by calling (773) 553-1530.
