Where This Data Comes From
- Enrollment: The percentage of students who enroll in a CPS school after leaving the detention center
- Persistence: The percentage of those students who remain enrolled in a CPS school through the end of the school year or graduate
- Students who stay within CPS—not those who transfer to another school district
Why This Matters
Leaving a detention center and moving back to a traditional school is a big change. Staying in school is critical to students’ success, so it’s important that schools help them stay engaged and give them the tools they need to succeed during this move. When a student stays enrolled, it shows that the "bridge" between the detention center and the new school is working well. Low transition rates are a sign that both schools may need more support to keep students connected to school and on the path to graduation.
