A Message from the Principal

Prescott won the Blue Ribbon School award in 2025 and 2019 from the US Department of Education and Governor of Illinois. In 2025, Erika's Lighthouse awarded Prescott a Peggy Kubert Model School in Mental Health Excellence, the only school in the state. The State of Illinois honored Prescott School as a top 10% school in 2025, 2024, 2023, & 2022 (Illinois Exemplary Summative Designation). In 2023, Prescott School earned RAMP-- Recognized ASCA (American School Counselor Association) Model Program-- one of only 31 schools in the state. For 11 consecutive years, Prescott has achieved the highest rating on the Creative Schools Certificate (arts education). Chicago Magazine named Prescott #9 in 2025, #13 in 2019, and #14 in 2019 out of over 400 elementary schools. Prescott School Counselor Marisa Mathews was named the 2024 Illinois School Counselor of the Year. Kindergarten teacher, Lisandra Barajas, earned the Those Who Excel Award, in 2023 from the state of Illinois for excellent teaching. Sixth and seventh grade Reading & Writing Teacher Tayler Showalter won the award in 2024; and Principal Dr. Erin Roche in 2025. Third grade teacher, Jennifer Phares, earned one of Illinois’ highest teacher honors, the Golden Apple Award, in 2009. Prescott boasts National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) including Phares, Swanson, Jasutis, Hazelip, and Roche. 98% of Prescott staff (100% of teachers) are Apple Teachers: Absil, Albores, Anderson, Arbor, Austria, Barajas, Birnbaum, Bruere, Choi, Cripe, De La Rosa, Dimas, Edwards, Farley, Giacobbe, Hainsfurther, C. Hall, K. Hall, Hazelip, Helmick, Jackson, Jasutis, Joseph, Lindsey, Lohman, Love, Marks, Mathews, Merkin, Moran, Moore, Nance, Occhipinti, Padove, Phares, Pullings, Riordan, Roche, Rutkelis, Schiffern, Schwabenbauer, Scully, Shear, Showalter, Stefan, Stewart, Styka, Swanson, Velasco. Students grow holistically across subjects and participate in extensive extra-curriculars, including athletics, performing arts, Battle of the Books, Future Problem Solvers (student teams have qualified for and place in the state competition the past six consecutive years and 14 students competed in the international competition in 2025), yoga, Leadership Club, Plant Club, and more.
