Dear Mount Vernon Families, Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! As your newly appointed Principal, it is an absolute honor to lead Mount Vernon Elementary. Having served our community for 31 years, as your Assistant Principal for the last 11, I am deeply invested in our MTV students and thrilled to guide our school into its next chapter. I am proud to announce our recertification as an exemplary Personalized Learning School, representing the south side of CPS! We are 1 of 3 exemplary PL Schools in the entire district. Our amazing staff has worked diligently to implement signature learning practices that tailor learning to our students' needs and interests, encouraging self-advocacy and leadership, as they demonstrate proficiency of standards through a variety of modes. This year, our focus is simple: positive energy, building confidence, and joyful learning. We want Mount Vernon to be a place where every student from Pre-K through 8th grade feels supported, motivated, and excited to learn. To bring this to life, our theme for the year is: "Wildcat Energy: Powered by Positivity. Shining Brighter Together." We are pairing strong academic expectations and the arts with brand-new student leadership opportunities. When staff, students, and families work together, our entire community thrives. School Hours & Attendance Our daily school hours are 7:45 AM – 2:45 PM, and breakfast is provided upon entry. Arriving on time every day is crucial so students don't miss out on essential daily instruction; every minute counts! Our school uniform colors have shifted to align with our school colors; hunter green tops! Students wear black pants and black closed-toe shoes. We have many opportunities for our parents to visit and to volunteer! Engaging families is of top priority; school-home partnership has a positive impact on student success!
