Facility Condition Assessment

We take a proactive approach to better understand the conditions of every school throughout the district. Information on this page explains the facility condition assessment and provides the latest assessment results for each CPS school.

CPS is required to complete a comprehensive biennial condition assessment of each facility owned, leased, or operated by the district.

CPS hires an independent firm to conduct the facility assessments. Assessment teams are made up of experienced building professionals including professional engineers, registered architects, and certified project managers.

The facility assessment will:

  • Evaluate all building systems in terms of their condition and recommended service life.
  • Provide an objective and consistent evaluation of every building and will identify overall facility needs across the district.
  • Inform short and long term capital planning for CPS and serve as the basis for project development and prioritization of future capital projects.
  • Provide essential data to support other user agencies and CPS departments.

Above all, the assessment allows CPS to better understand the conditions of every school throughout the district and to ensure that the schools with the most critical needs are addressed in a timely manner.
