Zero Food Waste Schools Program
|
How the Program Works
The Zero Food Waste Schools Program with Seven Generations Ahead is currently in 18 elementary, middle, and high schools.
With support from Seven Generations Ahead (SGA), each school:
- Forms a Zero Food Waste Team (administration, engineer, custodian, dining manager, teachers) to plan implementation and ensure ongoing success
- Is provided with organics/compost hauling equipment and weekly service (all CPS schools already have recycling hauling service)
- Sets up sorting stations in the lunchroom and kitchen
- Educates all students and staff on the "how" and "why" of the program
- Engages student Zero Waste Ambassadors who monitor the sorting process during the lunch period
- Conducts a waste audit to measure and celebrate their impact
