CPS Statement on Springfield Proposal To Address School Funding and Pension Inequities

CPS CEO Forrest Claypool issued the following statement about the consensus:

“For the first time, the Governor, Senate President, House Speaker, and others agree that when it comes to funding our schools, there is an inequity in the system that needs to be changed,” Claypool said. “They all acknowledge that there has to be uniformity when it comes to not only providing for our teachers and students in the classrooms, but in how we pay for our teachers’ pensions. We appreciate that they recognize these inequities and look forward to working with them towards a quick resolution that treats all of the state’s children equally. After recently making $200 million in cuts, Chicago Public Schools cannot afford to wait any longer to address this inequity.”
