Principal Eligibility Assessment Process Application

Application dates for SY18-19 are as follows:

  • Monday, September 24, 2018 at 8:00 AM to Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 11:59 PM
    • Fingerprinting is Due: Wednesday, October 3, 2018 by 4:00 pm
  • Monday, December 24, 2018 at 8:00 AM to Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 11:59 PM
    • Fingerprinting is Due: Wednesday, January 9, 2019 by 4:00 pm
  • Monday, April 1, 2019 at 8:00 AM to Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 11:59 PM
    • Fingerprinting is Due: Wednesday, April 10, 2018 by 4:00 pm

Note: The background check is a required step in the Eligibility assessment process for all candidates, including current CPS employees.The background check is initiated through fingerprinting. You will be required to complete fingerprinting no later than 3 business days after the close of the application period. Documentation to complete the fingerprinting process is provided in the application confirmation email.

Principal Eligibility Assessment Process Overview

The CPS Principal Eligibility process is designed to identify highly qualified, successful leaders for our schools. Through this process, current and aspiring principals must demonstrate evidence of leadership experience related to the CPS Principal Competencies, which can be found in the CPS Performance Standards for School Leaders Rubric with Critical Attributes. Applicants must be able to demonstrate school-wide leadership experiences that have resulted in positive student outcomes across multiple grade-levels and subject areas.

Information Session Workshops

The information session workshop provides a 2 hour overview of the eligibility process. Prior to attending an information session workshop, aspiring principals are asked to review a powerpoint covering the logistics of the process and informational guidance related to the process.

Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in some individual and small group exercises designed to help them prepare for the Eligibility process. Participants should be prepared to talk about their own leadership experiences and engage in small group discussions.
