The Department of Access and Enrollment (OAE) ensures all CPS students have equal access to high-quality programs that fit their educational needs.

The Office is responsible for:

  • Managing  and overseeing the application, testing, selection, projection, and transfer process for all district-managed and designated charter schools and programs
  • Coordinating and executing testing for selective enrollment elementary and high schools
  • Facilitating principal discretion process for selective enrollment high schools
  • Providing training and communication about navigating the application process, including the annual creation of the Elementary and High School Guides
  • Training clerks and counselors on best practices related to the application process
  • Coordinating the annual appeals process to ensure that all applications were accurately processed during the application period and remedy any possible CPS errors
  • Providing year-round information, guidance, and assistance regarding the application process to parents, school staff, administrators, and community residents
  • Managing early entrance to kindergarten and first-grade processes
  • Managing whole-subject acceleration and single-subject acceleration
