Mental Health Summit

You are invited to the second annual Mental Health Summit! This is a CPS event aimed at breaking the stigma around mental health, spreading awareness, and empowering each other’s well being. This will be a space for you all to connect, make new friends, learn about mental health, and have fun!

All CPS high school students are eligible to attend (Maximum of 250 Students), plus all CPS school-based clinical staff members, including: CPS school social workers, psychologists, nurses, and counselors (Maximum of 150 Staff Members).

What to Expect

  • Workshops and activities tailored for students and staff
  • Student-led activities focusing on different mental health topics

  • Time to meet with other high school students and staff
  • Opportunities for students to have their voices heard in a staff Q&A

  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided
  • Cost: FREE!  Register by Friday, April 5th, 2024.

For Students

  • Parental consent is required to attend this event. A permission slip is included in the registration form and must be attached to your completed form before you submit it.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided at this event, so please include any dietary restrictions when filling out this form.
  • Buses will be provided from some CPS high schools. Please don't let transportation deter you from registering!

For Staff

  • CPS nurses that register will be eligible to receive a stipend just for attending the event!
  • CPS Staff may choose to facilitate an activity or workshop for students and/or other staff members. If interested, please indicate on your registration form.

Staff Workshop or Wellness Activities

We are looking for staff to present workshops on Mental Health topics relevant to the wellbeing of high school students and CPS staff.  Relevant topics may include, but are not limited to: Self Care, Burn Out, The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health, Resilience, and Coping Skills/Self Regulation.

  • Presenters will receive a stipend for their work at the event.
  • Information should be accessible to students and staff. This can include interactive and fun activities!
  • Workshops should be 30 minutes long, including time for questions.
  • Please specify if your proposal is tailored towards students or staff.

Keynote Speaker

Chief Health Officer, Dr. Sofia Adawy Akintunde

Chief Health Officer, Dr. Sofia Adawy Akintunde

As the District’s Chief Health Officer, Dr. Sofia Adawy Akintunde is responsible for eliminating health-related barriers to learning and advancing child health equity within our schools.

She most recently served as the Senior Health Center Director at the Inner-city Muslim Action Network (IMAN) where she led the center’s strategy and operations, including overseeing a staff of 50 and serving more than 3,000 patients. As the sole physician on staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Adawy Akintunde led the development of the health center’s policies, public health response, and delivery of clinical care.

Dr. Adawy Akintunde holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Chicago. She earned a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, where she completed a residency in family medicine.
