Grades 9-12

High school students whose families have opted into in-person learning will attend class in-person 2-4 days a week and remote 1-3 days a week. Students' schedules will be maintained. The day-to-day experiences of in-person learning may vary as health and safety protocols are prioritized.

In-Person Days

On the days your child is assigned to attend school in-person, they will follow these general steps:

    1. Getting Ready for School

    Students will complete their required health screener at home using the link provided in a daily text to the student’s primary parent or guardian, or by visiting cps.edu/healthscreener. Students should bring a clean cloth face covering with them to school.

  • School Bus

    2. Traveling to School

    Students should wear their cloth face covering at all times while traveling to school with anyone outside of their immediate household. If a student takes a school bus, their temperature will be checked after boarding. If their temperature registers above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit and they cannot return home immediately, they will finish the ride socially distanced from other students and be moved to a care room at the school until their parents can pick them up. School bus aides will wear appropriate PPE and offer students hand sanitizer prior to boarding the bus. Students will sit by themselves or only with their siblings, and be spaced to ensure proper social distancing.

    3. Arriving at School

    Drop-off times may be staggered, and students will enter the school building through assigned entrances in order to ensure proper social distancing.

    4. Temperature Check and Health Screener Verification

    Before entering the building, a CPS staff member will check each student’s temperature and confirm that their health screener has been submitted. If a student’s temperature is above 100.4 degrees fahrenheit, they will be taken to a care room until their parents can pick them up. If a student’s health screener has not been submitted, a CPS staff member will contact a parent to complete the screener or work directly with the student to answer the questions.

    5. Addressing Symptoms

    If a student arrives at school exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, or begins to exhibit symptoms during the day, they will be moved to the school's designated care room to wait until they are picked up.

    6. Entering or Joining the Classroom

    In addition to sanitizing their hands upon entry into a classroom, High School students will have the option to wipe down their desks and chairs. Disinfecting wipes will be available in every classroom.

    7. Following Classroom Procedures

    All classrooms will be set up to maintain social distancing, and students and teachers will be required to wear cloth face coverings at all times unless eating. Students should follow verbal and visually posted instructions for handling supplies and equipment available in the room during class, including sanitizing supplies and equipment between use.

    8. Instructors and Classroom Supervision

    HS students will maintain their current schedules. Some classes may be taught by an in-person instructor and some may be taught by a remote instructor while the student participates on their device. In cases where the instructor is remote, another adult will be present in the room to provide supervision.

    9. Restrooms

    In-person students will have designated bathrooms which will be cleaned frequently throughout the day, and these students should follow posted signs near restroom entrances stating how many people can be in the restroom at the same time while maintaining social distance if a line forms. All students should wash hands thoroughly and use hand sanitizer before returning to their classroom or learning space.

    10. Food Breaks

    While learning in-person, students will eat all meals in designated areas while socially distancing. Cloth face coverings can be removed while eating.

    11. Receiving Student Services

    Related service providers, including English learner teachers, diverse learner teachers, and social emotional learning specialists, will continue to provide student services. Staff will have appropriate PPE based on their job duties.

    12. Ending the School Day

    At the end of the school day, in-person students will move through the school’s hallways with their pods and will remain socially distanced from all other pods. They will then exit the building through their assigned door.

Remote Days

On the days your child is assigned to attend school remotely, they will follow these general steps:

    1. Joining the Classroom

    In-person students on remote day will log-into their cps.edu accounts and join the classroom using their computers.

    Students should maintain a distraction free learning space in their home where they can focus on instruction.

    Students will follow their schedules as they have for Q3.

    4. Lunch and Breaks Throughout the Day

    High School students will have independent time for lunch as well as short breaks during the school day.

    5. Receiving Student Services

    Related service providers, English learner teachers, diverse learner teachers, and social emotional learning specialists, among others, will continue to provide student services. These staff members will schedule sessions with in-person students on remote day, and they will be conducted using their computers.

    At the end of the remote learning day, students will log-off and exit their computers.
