In-Person Days

1. Getting ready for school
Families will complete their required health screener at home using the link provided in a daily text to the student’s primary parent or guardian, or by visiting cps.edu/healthscreener. Students should remember to bring their clean cloth face covering with them to school.

2. Traveling to School
Students should wear their cloth face covering at all times while traveling to school with anyone outside of their immediate household. If a student takes a school bus, their temperature will be checked after boarding. If their temperature is above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit and they cannot return home immediately, they will social distance from other students on the bus and be immediately moved to a care room when they arrive at the school. School bus aides will wear appropriate PPE and offer students hand sanitizer prior to boarding the bus. Students will sit by themselves or with their siblings and be spaced to ensure proper social distancing.

3. Arrival at school
Drop-off times may be staggered, and students will enter the school building through assigned entrances in order to ensure proper social distancing.

4. Temperature Check and Health Screener Verification
Before entering the building, a CPS staff member will check each student’s temperature and confirm that their health screener has been submitted. If a student’s temperature is above 100.4 degrees fahrenheit, they will be taken to a care room until their parents can pick them up. If a student’s health screener has not been submitted, a CPS staff member will contact a parent to complete the screener or work directly with the student to answer the questions.

5. Addressing Symptoms
If a student arrives exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms or begins to exhibit symptoms during the day, they will be moved to the school's designated care room to wait until they are picked up.

6. Entering the classroom
Upon entering the school building, in-person students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer and go straight to their classrooms.

7. Following classroom procedures
All classrooms for in-person students will be set up to maintain social distancing, and students and teachers will be required to wear their masks at all times unless eating. In-person students should follow instructions for handling supplies and equipment available in the room during class, and all supplies and equipment will be sanitized between use.

8. Instructors and Classroom Supervision
Students will begin their day with their Pre-K teacher, but additional teachers may rotate in during the day to lead classes across subjects or to provide breaks for staff. In-person students will remain in the same classroom, and may have some classes that are taught by an in-person instructor and some by a remote instructor while they participate on their device from the classroom.

9. Activities and Quiet Time
During activity periods, in-person students should maintain social distancing and keep their masks on. Equipment will be sanitized between use. In-person students should only use the cot or sleeping mat assigned to them during quiet time and should keep their masks on during this period. Cots and mats will be sanitized after each use.

10. Restrooms
In-person student pods will have designated bathrooms which will be cleaned frequently throughout the day, and these students should follow posted signs near restroom entrances stating how many people can be in the restroom at the same time while maintaining social distance if a line forms. All students should wash hands thoroughly and use hand sanitizer before returning to their classroom or learning space.

11. Food Breaks
In-person students will likely eat all meals in their classrooms. They may eat in the cafeteria on a staggered schedule if social distancing can be maintained. Masks can be removed while eating, but students should refrain from talking. Eating spaces, whether in class or the cafeteria, will be thoroughly disinfected between use.

12. Receiving student services
Related service providers, including English learner teachers, diverse learner teachers, and social emotional learning specialists, will continue to provide student services. These staff members will rotate across assigned pods to provide services to in-person and will schedule sessions with remote students. If they need to see students in a pod not assigned to them, those services will be provided remotely or with social distancing.

13. Ending the school day
At the end of the school day, in-person students will move through the school’s hallways with their pods and will remain socially distanced from all other pods. They will then exit the building through their assigned door.
