Halloween Safety Reminders

Dear CPS Families:

Halloween is this Monday, October 31, and we know that there are Halloween-themed events happening this week and this weekend. We want all of our students to have a great time, but we also want to make sure that everyone stays safe while celebrating.

Below are some safety tips that can help kids have a safe and enjoyable time as they head out this Halloween. Parents, please remind your trick-or-treaters to do all of the following:

Travel in pairs or small groups whenever possible.
Communicate with others about their location and where they are going.
Use reflective tape on their costumes to help cars and people see them better
Stick to well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk.
Carry a cell phone for emergencies, but remember to stay alert while walking.
Pay close attention while crossing the street and while walking in parking lots.
Go to the nearest business or populated area if feeling uncomfortable or threatened and call for help.

It’s also important to remember that COVID-19 is still with us, and that there are easy precautions we can take to reduce the risk of contracting the virus. Children are encouraged to build a mask into their costumes and stay on the move while trick-or-treating. Less congregating means less exposure to COVID, and more houses means more treats! It’s also smart to keep trick-or-treating crew small and to stay outside as much as possible.

El día de Halloween es este lunes, 31 de octubre, y sabemos que hay eventos de Halloween esta semana y fin de semana. Queremos que todos nuestros estudiantes se diviertan, pero también queremos asegurarnos de que todos estén seguros mientras celebran.

A continuación hay unos consejos de seguridad que pueden ayudar a los chicos a permanecer seguros mientras salen este Halloween. Padres, por favor recuérdenles a sus niños seguir todos estos consejos mientras hacen trick-or-treat.

Viajar en parejas o grupos pequeños siempre que sea posible.
Comunicarles a otros dónde están y para dónde van.
Usar cintas reflectantes en sus disfraces para ayudar a los carros y las personas a verlos con más facilidad.
Permanecer en calles bien iluminadas y siempre usar las aceras.
Llevar un teléfono celular para emergencias, pero que también recuerden permanecer atentos mientras caminan.
Prestar mucha atención mientras cruzan las calles y caminan en estacionamientos.
Ir al área comercial u ocupada más cercana si se siente incómodo o amenazado, y pedir ayuda.

También es importante recordar que el COVID-19 todavía está con nosotros, y que hay pasos simples que podemos tomar para reducir el riesgo de contraer el virus. Se les exhorta a los niños que añadan mascarillas a sus disfraces y permanezcan en movimiento mientras hacen trick-or-treat. Mientras menos se congregue la gente, menos exposición al COVID hay, y más casas implica más dulces. También es buena idea mantener el grupo de trick-or-treat pequeño y permanecer al aire libre lo más posible.
