An Important Message from the CPS Office of Safety and Security

Dear CPS Families, 

The safety of our students is always our top priority and we always want to keep you informed of situations affecting our schools. As you may be aware,  this morning, the CPS Office of Safety and Security was made aware of a prank phone call falsely claiming that there was an active shooter inside of a CPS school. The Chicago Police Department immediately responded and it was confirmed that the call was a hoax. Upon their investigation, it was confirmed that similar calls were also affecting other schools in cities around the country. 

Our partners in law enforcement have communicated to the District that they have no information about any credible threat to school safety related to these calls. However, we will continue to be vigilant and monitor this situation closely with these partners.

Please know that we will always take all threats seriously.  As a reminder, if you are ever made aware of a potential safety concern related to a CPS school, we ask that you please notify that school’s administration immediately so they can partner with the Office of Safety and Security to ensure the concern is properly reviewed and addressed.

Estimadas familias de las CPS:

La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes siempre es nuestra primera prioridad, y siempre queremos mantenerles informados de las situaciones que afectan a nuestras escuelas. Cómo pueden saber, esta mañana la Oficina de Seguridad y Vigilancia de las CPS supo de una falsa llamada que alegó que había un francotirador activo en una escuela de las CPS. El Departamento de Policía respondió inmediatamente y se confirmó que la llamada constituía un engaño. Al investigar, se confirmó que llamadas similares también estaban afectando  otras escuelas en otras ciudades alrededor del país.  

Nuestros colaboradores en el mantenimiento del orden público han comunicado al Distrito que no tienen información sobre amenazas creíbles a la seguridad escolar relacionadas a estas llamadas. Sin embargo, continuaremos siendo vigilantes y observando esta situación de cerca con dichos colaboradores.  

Deseo que por favor sepan que siempre tomaremos todas las amenazas en serio. Les recuerdo: si en algún momento saben de un potencial asunto de seguridad relacionado a una escuela de las CPS, les pedimos que por favor notifiquen a la administración de dicha escuela inmediatamente para que puedan colaborar con la Oficina de Seguridad y Vigilancia para asegurar que el asunto sea investigado y resuelto propiamente.
