7th Grade, 8th Grade Details
Academic Centers, housed in high schools, offer high-achieving students the opportunity to take advanced classes. Students attending Academic Centers can continue at their current school when they enter 9th grade without needing to reapply. Application and Selection Details Selection Type
All selective enrollment programs use a points-based selection process. For this program, an applicant's final grades from the previous school year and composite score on the Regional Gifted exam are converted to points using a rubric. Students are selected in descending total point order, with top scorers chosen first. For entry-level (7th grade) selections only, a student's socioeconomic tier will be considered in the selection process (see the Preferences & Priorities section below for more details). Students living inside the Attendance Area are guaranteed a seat within their Guaranteed Offer application and can enroll at the school directly with proof of residency.
Students living outside the Attendance Area must submit an application and must meet the 2.5 GPA minimum. Applicants are selected by random computerized lottery. International Baccalaureate (IB) is an inquiry-based, concept-driven framework that aims to develop self-directed thinkers and reflective problem solvers. Students enrolled in the IB Program may receive college credit for their high school courses. All students applying to this program must take the HSAT (PreACT 9 Secure) administered by CPS. Note: International Baccalaureate (IB) is an inquiry-based, concept-driven framework that aims to develop self-directed thinkers and reflective problem solvers. Students enrolled in the IB Program may receive college credit for their high school courses. All students applying to this program must take the HSAT (PreACT 9 Secure) administered by CPS.
