Local School Council SRO Determinations
As part of Chicago Public Schools’ commitment to promoting community engagement and transparency, the district is providing a list of schools with School Resource Officers (SROs) who have been advised to make community-led decisions about whether they want to maintain SROs in their schools during the 2020-21 school year.
The district has consolidated a list of LSC and community meetings that have been scheduled to engage the community or vote on the SRO Program. Schools with SRO programs have been asked to vote on whether they wish to continue their SRO program by August 14, 2020.
If an LSC does not have enough members to meet quorum due to vacancies, the district recommends that the existing LSC members engage the school community and conduct a poll to reach a consensus. The principal and network chief will make the final recommendation based on the consensus from LSC members and feedback from the school community. LSCs can re-visit the decision to retain SROs at any time.
Any changes to dates or votes that have been updated from the previously-posted tracker are denoted with a strikethrough. All final decisions previously posted remain the same, with the exception of Kelly High School, which was originally noted as voting to maintain SROs. Additional information is included below in the footnotes regarding that specific circumstance.
The final decisions as of August 17, 2020 are as follows:
- Schools/Campuses Opting to Maintain SROs: 55
- Schools/Campuses Opting to Remove SROs: 17
LSC SRO Toolkit
Local School Councils are encouraged to review the LSC SRO Toolkit as they vote to decide whether they wish to maintain the program at their school.
