End of Week Message: So Much to be Grateful for this Thanksgiving

Dear CPS Families, Colleagues, and Supporters,

Next week is Thanksgiving - the perfect time to reflect on all we have to be grateful for this year. For me, that definitely includes the opportunity I now have to lead the school District that helped shape who I am. I’m grateful for that chance to give back, and for the dedicated team of educators and staff who spend their days making a difference in the lives of our city’s youth. I’m also extremely grateful to the CPS families who entrust us with the education of their children, and to our students themselves, who work so hard in their classrooms every single day.

Many of our schools hosted celebrations this week ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Haines Elementary School in Chinatown hosted a Fall Fest for its students complete with food and homemade turkey hats. Pre-K students at Beidler Elementary School in East Garfield Park enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast. And Colemon Academy on the Far South Side has been giving thanks to all the families and staff members that go above and beyond to make students smile. This year, they delivered special meals to students, an idea that stemmed from the school’s focus on student voice and engagement. 

Students at Nightingale Elementary School on the Southwest Side and Dever Elementary School on the Northwest Side focused on community service to celebrate Thanksgiving. They hosted food drives throughout the week. Students at Ruiz Elementary School brought some Thanksgiving fun to their physical education class. They held a build-a-turkey relay race using objects like hula hoops, cones, and colored cloth. And students at Taylor Elementary School on the Southeast Side had a blast designing their own Thanksgiving parade balloons! 

And thanks to the Children First Fund and Operation Warm, many CPS students now have new winter coats to keep them comfortable as temperatures grow colder. This week, our partners at Wells Fargo hosted coat giveaways at Aldridge, Bond, Cameron, and Finkl elementary schools. We are extremely grateful for their generosity to these school communities this holiday season. 

I want to wish everyone in our CPS community a safe, healthy, and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. I look forward to seeing all of our students back in class on Monday, November 28 fully rested and ready to finish the semester strong!

Take Five with Brooke Clark: Teacher at Back of the Yards College Preparatory High School

Take Five is a series that highlights some of the many CPS staff members who are going above and beyond for our schools. If you know someone who is making a difference, nominate them to be featured here.

Thanksgiving week is the perfect opportunity to introduce Ms. Brooke Clark, an English teacher at Back of the Yards College Preparatory High School (BOYCP), and a mentor whose impact has been profoundly felt by her students. Their below testimonies show just how thankful they are to have crossed paths with this extraordinary teacher. 

Earlier this year, Ms. Clark received a 2022 Outstanding Educator Award from the University of Chicago, an award program where new UChicago students have the opportunity to “recognize the educators who have made a difference in their lives.” Angel C., a freshman at UChicago and one of Ms. Clark’s former students, nominated her to receive this award by writing: "Ms. Clark is outstanding not because she is a great teacher, but because she has been my mentor in life… There are countless reasons why Ms. Clark is so outstanding, [and] I see them in the smile of every person who talks to her."

Angel is not the only student who has felt Ms. Clark’s impact as an educator. Berenise B. describes Ms. Clark’s class as a supportive and comforting learning environment that helps them feel safe, seen, acknowledged, and appreciated. Berenise also reflected, “Ms. Clark has helped me to understand that my grades do not define me as a person and that failure along the way is absolutely acceptable… Ms. Clark is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life because she gets to know her students.” 

Another student, Jordy E., echoed this appreciation for Ms. Clark’s ability to forge connections in her classroom, saying: “No amount of words could truly describe how much Ms. Clark has done for me and my person… Ms. Clark has such a magical way to connect with students; she makes us laugh, form connections with other students, and all the while learning lessons in creative and fun [ways]. I will forever be changed by my interactions with Ms. Clark, and these moments will always remain close to my heart.”

What made you want to become a teacher?

I love to learn. It’s ironic, because I never considered myself much of a scholar. As a student who played softball, I mainly identified as an athlete. That was until an English teacher of mine wrote on one of my essays that they could tell I had a lot to say. No one had ever told me that before, and it helped me realize that being a scholar could also be a part of my identity. 

In addition to the teachers who impacted me as a student, I always knew I wanted to be around young people and their energy and curiosity. Now that I have been teaching for eight years, I cannot imagine any other profession. I am grateful to my own teachers who activated my love of learning, and grateful that I chose this path. 

What do you love about teaching?

I love high schoolers’ curiosity and the authenticity of their personalities. I laugh and learn so much on a daily basis, and I am regularly challenged by their inquiries. My students make me a better scholar and a better person. It’s also really special to be able to facilitate an environment where we read and process texts that are highly emotional. Those emotions run the gamut. We read everything from Cyrano de Bergerac, which is a truly hilarious play, to The Kite Runner, which is a gut-wrenching novel.

How did you feel when you heard that you received an Outstanding Educator Award?

I felt loved. I was surprised when I got the announcement, but I wasn’t surprised when I found out why and who nominated me. I have been tracking this former student’s journey throughout the years. I wrote him a recommendation letter when he was applying to UChicago and cried with his parents when he got accepted. My old student is a very thoughtful and appreciative person, so I am not surprised that he made such a kind gesture.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I don’t have much free time, but when I do I am very active. I like to run and ride my bike, and I have continued my passion for softball — I am the softball coach at BOYCP, and I play with my colleagues on the Chicago Teachers Union softball team. I am also a reader. I love a good romance story, and my favorite authors are Jane Austen, David Sedaris, and Khaled Hosseini. I try to read a mix of texts that I am interested in and texts that my students are interested in; I like to stay up-to-date with current young adult literature.

Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?

I have a really sweet, goofy dog named Sirius, and a lot of holiday traditions revolve around him. My significant other and I just started a new tradition of dressing him up for Halloween. And for Thanksgiving, we don’t want Sirius to be left out when we make our plates, so we make him his own plate with a dog-friendly version of a Thanksgiving feast!

Staying Safe and Healthy During the Holiday Season

As the weather gets colder and families look ahead to holiday gatherings, staying safe and healthy is incredibly important. Cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are increasing, and both COVID and flu infections tend to rise as the weather gets colder and students and staff gather outside of the school setting. Here are some steps to take to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your school community.

Here’s a handout with lots of relevant information for families.

• While CPS is mask-optional, we highly encourage wearing a mask in school to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other airborne illnesses.
• Free COVID-19 tests are available at every school; we strongly encourage students and staff to contact school administration to get tests, and use these tests before and after the Thanksgiving break and winter break. If you test positive, please report the positive test here and please follow the guidance here.
• Being up-to-date on vaccinations is one of the best ways you can keep your family safe as we enter the winter months. CPS continues to offer COVID-19 vaccines, including the new “bivalent booster” that offers increased protection against the virus, at a variety of sites. Please visit cps.edu/vaccinations to review your options and make an appointment. 
• CPS is also offering flu shots alongside COVID vaccines at our four permanent regional clinics and both our elementary and high school mobile programs. For additional opportunities to get a flu shot, visit this page.
• The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) has reported an increase of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases among young children in Chicago. RSV is a common respiratory virus that most people recover from in one to two weeks. However, RSV can pose very serious health risks for young children, including leading to bronchiolitis and pneumonia. For more information on RSV, please read this fact sheet (English | Spanish) from CDPH.

Student and Staff Spotlights 

This Thanksgiving, Ms. Bianca Treadwell is thankful for her new job at Deneen School of Excellence, and she’s even more thankful that she gets to be part of the Deneen community with three of her children, Daniyah, Logan, and Kaden. The three of them are in seventh grade, third grade, and kindergarten, and each of them has gotten off to a great start this school year. They are looking forward to continuing to take advantage of all that Deneen has to offer while also building their relationships with each other. 

We’re also highlighting Principal Tyrese Graham and all the work he has done to bring Uplift High School to the next level over the past five years. From high-quality Early College STEAM programming to many different facility upgrades, the school has blossomed into a true gem in the community. Now, Principal Graham’s goals include further embedding Uplift within the Uptown community so that its students and families know about all the opportunities the school has to offer. 

Students at Corliss High School Earn Their Commercial Drone Pilot License 

Four students from Corliss High School are now certified commercial license drone pilots. To earn their license, each student participated in an intensive study program at their school and passed a certification exam at Midway Airport. One of the students, A’Janay, is the youngest Black woman in the country to hold this license. These students were recognized for all of their hard work and dedication at a celebration held at Corliss this week. Great job A’Janay, Ivory, Jonathan, and Vincent! 

Two CPS Students Take On New Leadership Role 

Sareena Shah, a senior at Payton College Prep, and Jeremiah Griffin, a junior at Lindblom High School, have joined the Illinois State Board of Education’s (ISBE) 2022-23 Student Advisory Council. In this role, Sareena and Jeremiah will join more than 20 high school students from across Illinois to help ISBE develop and implement policies. They will also research and present on a variety of issues that are important to students to help create solutions for some of the  most pressing challenges that are impacting student outcomes. Congratulations Sareena and Jeremiah!

CPS Highlighted as National Leader Regarding Substitute Coverage

A new study highlights impressive strides the District has made to ensure that schools across Chicago can rely on consistent substitute coverage to supplement their staffing needs. By implementing a targeted bonus program that provides additional financial incentives for working as a substitute in one of the District’s highest-need schools, CPS has substantially improved coverage equity and raised student achievement. Arts Opportunity for 12th Graders: All-City Senior Portfolio Exhibition 

Submissions for the 2023 All-City Senior Portfolio Exhibition are open now until November 28th, 2022. All 12th grade students from any CPS school (including charter, contract, and options schools) are encouraged to submit their artwork for a chance to exhibit their work and gain exposure among selected college admissions representatives. Please review the 2022–23 Senior Portfolio Submission Guidelines before submitting artwork — the guidelines contain a link to the submission form. In addition, artwork selected for the Senior Portfolio Exhibition or chosen as an Honorable Mention will be considered for inclusion in the Art on theMART exhibition. GoCPS Application Process Open Through December 2, 2022

The District’s GoCPS platform allows families to research and apply for all District and charter high schools and all District elementary schools in one place at go.cps.edu. Before the December 2 application deadline, families are encouraged to attend open houses for the schools they are interested in and research their options on the GoCPS website. 2023 Golden Apple Award Nominations Now Open 

Nominations are now open to submit impactful teachers and school leaders to be considered for a 2023 Golden Apple Award. Golden Apple is currently accepting nominations for teachers serving between grades 4–8 for the 2023 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and school leaders serving between grades Pre-K–12 for the 2023 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Leadership. El Día de Acción de Gracias, la semana que viene, es una ocasión perfecta para reflexionar sobre todo lo que tenemos que agradecer este año. Para mí, esto definitivamente incluye la oportunidad que ahora tengo de dirigir el Distrito escolar que me ayudó a convertirme en quien soy. Agradezco esa oportunidad de dar algo de vuelta, y al equipo dedicado de educadores y personal que pasan sus días haciendo la diferencia en las vidas de la juventud de nuestra ciudad. También agradezco muchísimo a las familias de las CPS, que ponen su confianza en nosotros al encargarnos la educación de sus niños, y a nuestros mismos estudiantes, que trabajan duro en sus aulas todos y cada día. 

Muchas de nuestras escuelas organizaron celebraciones esta semana en anticipación a la fiesta de Acción de Gracias. La Escuela Primaria Haines, en Chinatown, organizó un festival de otoño para sus estudiantes, que incluyó comida y sombreros en forma de pavo hechos a mano. Los estudiantes de prekínder en la Escuela Primaria Beidler, en East Garfield Park, disfrutaron de un festín de Acción de Gracias. Y la Academia Colemon en el extremo sur de la ciudad ha estado dando gracias a todas las familias y los miembros del personal que van más allá para hacer sonreír a los estudiantes. Este año enviaron comidas especiales a los estudiantes, una idea que surgío del enfoque de la escuela en las voces y la participación estudiantiles.  

Los estudiantes en la Escuela Primaria Nightingale, en el lado suroeste, y de la Escuela Primaria Dever, en el lado noroeste, se enfocaron en el servicio comunitario para su celebración de Acción de Gracias organizando recogidas de comida durante la semana. Los estudiantes de la Escuela Primaria Ruiz llevaron consigo diversión de Acción de Gracias a su clase de educación física: llevaron a cabo un relevo de construcción de pavo usando objetos como hula hoops, conos, y telas de color. Y los estudiantes en la Escuela Primaria Taylor, en el lado sureste, la pasaron de primera diseñando sus propios globos de parada de Acción de Gracias.

Y gracias al fondo Children First y Operation Warm, muchos estudiantes de las CPS ahora tiene nuevos abrigos de invierno para mantenerse cómodos según enfrían las temperaturas. Esta semana, nuestros colaboradores en Wells Fargo organizaron sorteos de abrigos en las escuelas primarias Aldridge, Bond, Cameron y Finkl. Estamos sumamente agradecidos por su generosidad a estas comunidades escolares durante esta temporada de fiestas.

Quiero desearles a todos en nuestra comunidad CPS una fiesta de Acción de Gracias segura, saludable y divertida. ¡Espero ver a todos nuestros estudiantes de vuelta el lunes, 28 de noviembre, descansados y listos para terminar el semestre con fuerza!

Cinco preguntas a Brooke Clark, maestra en la Escuela Secundaria Back of the Yards

Cinco preguntas es una serie que resalta algunos de los muchos miembros del personal de las CPS que van más allá por nuestras escuelas. Si conoce a alguien que esté haciendo una diferencia, nomínelo para que aparezca aquí (formulario en inglés). 

La semana de Acción de Gracias presenta la oportunidad perfecta para presentar a Brook Clark, maestra de inglés en la Escuela Secundaria Preparatoria Back of the Yards (BOYCP, según sus siglas en inglés) y una mentora cuyo impacto ha sido profundamente sentido por sus estudiantes. Sus testimonios a continuación demuestran lo agradecidos que se sienten por haber cruzado caminos con esta extraordinaria maestra. 

Este año, Clark recibió un premio para educadores sobresalientes, el Outstanding Educator Award, otorgado por la Universidad de Chicago (sitio web en inglés), como parte de un programa en el cual los nuevos estudiantes universitarios tienen la oportunidad de “reconocer a los educadores que han hecho una diferencia en sus vidas.” Angel C., un estudiante de primer año de UChicago y uno de los antiguos estudiantes de Clark, la nominó para este premio escribiendo: “la Sra. Clark no sobresale porque es una excelente maestra, sino porque ha sido mi mentora en la vida. [...] Hay un sinnúmero de razones por las cuales la Sra. Clark es tan sobresaliente, y las veo en las sonrisas de todas las personas que hablan con ella”.  

Angel no es el único estudiante que ha sentido el impacto de Clark como educadora. Berenise B. describe la clase de Clark como un ambiente de aprendizaje respaldador y reconfortante que los ayuda a sentirse seguros, vistos, reconocidos y apreciados. Berenice también reflejó que “Sra. Clark me ayudó a entender que mis calificaciones no me definen como persona y que fracasar en el camino es absolutamente aceptable [...] Sra. Clark es una de las mejores maestras que he tenido en mi vida porque ella llega a conocer a sus estudiantes”.  

Otro estudiante, Jordy E., también expresó apreciación por la destreza de Clark de crear conexiones en su aula, y dijo: “No existen palabras que puedan describir realmente lo mucho que la señora Clark ha hecho por mí y mi ser [...] Sra. Clark tiene una manera tan mágica de conectar con los estudiantes: nos hace reír y formar conexiones con otros estudiantes a la misma vez que aprendemos lecciones de maneras creativas y divertidas. Siempre permaneceré cambiado por mis interacciones con la señora Clark, y estos momentos siempre permanecerán cerca de mi corazón". 

¿Qué te hizo querer ser maestra?

Me encanta aprender. Es irónico, porque nunca me consideré muy académica. Como estudiante jugadora de softbol, principalmente me consideraba atleta. Eso fue hasta que una maestra de inglés mía escribió en uno de mis ensayos que podía ver que tenía mucho que decir. Nadie nunca me había dicho eso, y me ayudó a descubrir que ser académica también podía ser parte de mi identidad.   

Además de los maestros que me impactaron como estudiante, siempre supe que quería estar junto a los jóvenes y su energía y curiosidad. Ahora que he estado enseñando por ocho años, no puedo imaginar otra profesión. Agradezco a mis propios maestros, que activaron mi amor por el aprendizaje, y agradezco haber escogido este camino.  

¿Qué es lo que más te encanta de enseñar?

Me encanta la curiosidad de los estudiantes de escuela secundaria y la autenticidad de sus personalidades. Río y aprendo mucho cada día y regularmente me siento desafiada por sus preguntas. Mis estudiantes me hacen mejor académica y mejor persona. También es muy especial poder facilitar un ambiente donde leemos y procesamos textos que son altamente emocionales. Estas emociones cubren la gama: leemos desde Cyrano de Bergerac, una obra teatral realmente cómica, hasta Cometas de papel, una novela desgarradora.  

¿Cómo te sentiste cuando supiste que habías recibido un Outstanding Educator Award?

Me sentí querida. Me sorprendió recibir el anuncio, pero no estuve sorprendida cuando supe porque y quien me había nominado. He estado manteniéndome al tanto de la trayectoria de este antiguo estudiante a través de los años; le escribí una carta de recomendación cuando solicitaba a UChicago y lloré con sus padres cuando lo aceptaron. Mi antiguo estudiante es una persona muy considerada y apreciativa, y por lo tanto no me sorprende que haya hecho un gesto tan bondadoso.  

¿Qué te gusta hacer fuera del trabajo?

No tengo mucho tiempo libre, pero cuando lo tengo soy muy activa. Me gusta correr y montar bici, y mi pasión por el sóftbol ha continuado: soy la entrenadora de sóftbol de BOYCP y juego con mis colegas en el equipo del Sindicato de Maestros de Chicago.  También soy lectora: me encantan los buenos romances, y mis autores favoritos son Jane Austen, David Sedaris y Khaled Hosseini. Trato de leer una combinación de textos que me interesan y textos que les interesan a mis estudiantes: me gusta mantenerme al día con la literatura juvenil actual.  

¿Tienes algunas tradiciones de días de fiesta?  

Tengo un perro muy dulce y ridículo llamado Sirius, y muchas de mis tradiciones de fiestas lo involucran a él. Mi pareja y yo acabamos de comenzar una nueva tradición de vestirlo para Halloween. Y para el Día de Acción de Gracias, no queremos que Sirius se sienta excluido mientras hacemos nuestros platos, ¡o sea que le hacemos su propio plato con un festín de Acción de Gracias apto para perros! 

La seguridad y la salud durante la temporada de fiestas 

Según enfría el tiempo y las familias comienzan a anticipar los encuentros festivos, mantenerse seguros y saludables cobra aún más importancia. Los casos del virus sincitial respiratorio (RSV, según sus siglas en inglés) están en aumento, y las infecciones del COVID y la influenza tienden a aumentar según las temperaturas bajan y los estudiantes y el personal participan en encuentros fuera del entorno escolar. A continuación hay varios pasos que pueden tomar para protegerse a sí mismos, a sus amados y su comunidad escolar. Aquí también tiene un folleto con mucha información relevante para las familias. 

• Aunque su uso es opcional en las CPS, exhortamos enfáticamente llevar mascarillas en las escuelas, para así prevenir la trasmisión del COVID-19 y otras enfermedades que se esparcen por el aire.
• Hay disponibles  pruebas de COVID-19 en cada escuela, y exhortamos enfáticamente a los estudiantes y el personal a que contacten sus administraciones escolares para obtener pruebas, y que las utilicen antes y después de los recesos de Acción de Gracias e invierno. Si da positivo en una prueba, por favor reporte el resultado positivo aquí y siga las directrices encontradas aquí.
• Estar al día con sus vacunas es una de las mejores maneras de mantener a su familia segura según entramos a los meses de invierno. Las CPS continúan ofreciendo vacunas contra el COVID-19 —que incluyen el nuevo refuerzo bivalente que ofrece protección fortalecida contra el virus— en una variedad de locales. Por favor visite cps.edu/vaccinations para verificar sus opciones y programar una cita. 
• Las CPS también están ofreciendo vacunas contra la influenza junto a sus vacunas contra el COVID, en nuestras cuatro clínicas regionales permanentes y nuestros programas móviles de escuelas primarias y secundarias. • El Departamento de Salud Pública de Chicago (CDPH, según sus siglas en inglés) ha reportado un aumento en los casos del virus sincitial respiratorio (RSV, según sus siglas en inglés). Estudiantes y personal destacados 

Este Día de Acción de Gracias, Bianca Treadwell agradece su nuevo trabajo en la Escuela de Excelencia Deneen, y agradece aún más poder ser parte de la comunidad Deneen con tres de sus hijos, Daniyah, Logan, and Kaden. Están, respectivamente, en séptimo grado, tercer grado, y kínder, y cada uno ha tenido un excelente comienzo de año escolar. Todos esperan continuar aprovechándose de todo lo que ofrece Deneen, a la vez que fortalecen sus vínculos familiares. 

También destacamos al director Tyrese Graham y todo el trabajo que ha hecho los últimos cinco años para llevar a la Escuela Secundaria Uplift al próximo nivel. Gracias a elementos como programación preuniversitaria de CTIAM y un sinnúmero de actualizaciones a las instalaciones de la escuela, Uplift ha florecido y pasado a ser una verdadera joya en su comunidad. Ahora, las metas del director Graham incluyen incorporar más a Uplift en la comunidad Uptown para que sus estudiantes y familias sepan de todas las oportunidades que ofrece la escuela. 

Estudiantes de la Escuela Secundaria Corliss obtienen sus licencias de pilotos de drones comerciales 

Cuatro estudiantes de la Escuela Secundaria Corliss son ahora pilotos licenciados de drones comerciales. Para obtener sus licencias, cada estudiante participó en un programa de estudio intensivo y pasaron una prueba de certificación en el Aeropuerto Midway. Una de los estudiantes, A’Janay, es la mujer negra más joven en el país en obtener esta licencia. Los estudiantes fueron homenajeados por su esfuerzo y dedicación en una celebración en Corliss esta semana. ¡Excelente labor, A’Janay, Ivory, Jonathan y Vincent!

Dos estudiantes de las CPS aceptan nuevos puestos de liderazgo

Sareena Shah, estudiante de duodécimo grado en Payton College Prep, y Jeremiah Griffin, estudiante de undécimo grado en la Escuela Secundaria Lindblom, se han unido al Consejo Asesor Estudiantil del 2022-2023 de la Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois (ISBE, según sus siglas en inglés). En estos puestos, Sareena y Jeremiah trabajarán con más de veinte estudiantes de escuela secundaria de todo Illinois para ayudar a la ISBE a desarrollar e implementar políticas. También investigarán y harán presentaciones sobre una variedad de asuntos de importancia a los estudiantes para ayudar a crear soluciones para algunos de los retos más urgentes que ahora impactan el desempeño estudiantil. ¡Felicitaciones, Sareena y Jeremiah!

Las CPS son destacadas como líder en cuanto a la cobertura de maestros sustitutos

Un nuevo estudio (en inglés) resalta los impresionantes logros que el Distrito ha hecho para asegurar que las escuelas a través de Chicago puedan depender de cobertura consistente de maestros sustitutos que suplementen sus necesidades de personal. Al implementar un programa dirigido de bonos que brinda incentivos financieros adicionales a los que trabajen como sustitutos en las escuelas más necesitadas del Distrito, las CPS han mejorado sustancialmente la equidad de cobertura y aumentado los logros estudiantiles. Oportunidad de arte para los estudiantes de duodécimo grado: la All-City Senior Portfolio Exhibition 

El plazo de envío de contribuciones para la All-City Senior Portfolio Exhibition del 2023 ha comenzado, y durará hasta el 28 de noviembre de 2022. Se les exhorta a todos los estudiantes  de duodécimo grado de las CPS —incluidas las escuelas chárter, de contrato y de opciones— presentar sus obras de arte para tener la oportunidad de que sean expuestas y vistas por los representantes de admisión seleccionados de varios colegios y universidades. Por favor revise las directrices para la presentación de portafolios para el año 2022-2023 (en inglés) antes de enviar sus obras de arte; las directrices contienen un enlace directo al formulario de envíos de la exposición. Además, las obras seleccionadas para la All-City Senior Portfolio Exhibition o que reciban una mención honorable serán consideradas para ser incluídas en la exposición de Art on theMART. Proceso de solicitud de GoCPS abierto hasta el 2 de diciembre de 2022

La plataforma GoCPS del Distrito permite a las familias investigar y solicitar en un solo lugar —go.cps.edu— todas las escuelas secundarias del Distrito o chárter, y  todas las escuelas primarias del Distrito. Se les exhorta a las familias que asistan a las recepciones escolares para padres —open houses— que les interesen y que investiguen sus opciones en el sitio web de GoCPS antes de que termine el plazo de solicitud el 2 de diciembre.  Para obtener respuestas a preguntas comunes sobre GoCPS relacionadas a nuestras escuelas secundarias, por favor haga clic aquí; para respuestas a preguntas relacionadas a nuestras escuelas primarias, haga clic aquí.

Abiertas las nominaciones para los premios Golden Apple del 2023 

Ha comenzado el periodo para nominar maestros y líderes escolares de impacto para que sean candidatos a un premio Golden Apple de 2023.  Golden Apple actualmente acepta nominaciones de maestros de cuarto a octavo grado para recibir premios Golden Apple por la Excelencia en la Enseñanza, y de maestros de prekínder a duodécimo grado para recibir premios Golden Apple por la Excelencia en el Liderazgo. Nomine a alguien de su escuela para el premio Those Who Excel o el premio Teacher of the Year

La Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois (ISBE, según sus siglas en inglés) actualmente acepta nominaciones para sus premios Those Who Excel y Teacher of the Year. Estos premios rinden homenaje a los maestros, administradores, miembros del personal escolar y voluntarios sobresalientes que han hecho contribuciones significativas a las escuelas de Illinois. Las nominaciones se aceptarán en el sitio web de la ISBE hasta hoy, 18 de noviembre.
