Community Action Councils (CACs)

Community Action Councils (CACs) bring together families, school administrators, teachers, staff, and community stakeholders to support the improvement of local education.

Community Action Councils (CACs) consist of 25 to 30 voting members who are directly involved in developing a strategic plan for educational success within their communities. CAC members include:

  • Parents
  • Elected officials
  • Faith-based institutions
  • Health care and community-based organizations
  • Local School Council (LSC) members
  • Business leaders
  • Educators and school administrators
  • Staff members from Chicago's sister agencies
  • Community residents
  • Students

CAC Ambassadors Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in monthly meetings
  • Review school data to develop academic improvement initiatives
  • Develop annual educational strategic plan to improve schools
  • Actively participate in CAC committee meetings and initiatives outside of the monthly meetings
  • Provide community perspective on critical CPS initiatives and policies related to school improvement strategies
  • Recruit judges and candidates for LSC elections
  • Attend Annual CAC conferences, retreats, and/or summits
