Staffing Operations Management

Facilities’ Staffing/Operations team renders services in employee management and labor relations, recruitment and onboarding, training and development, and payroll/time management. Our goal is to provide Chicago Public Schools with adequate and qualified cleaning staff that complies with APPA Cleaning Staffing Levels and engineering staff.

Submitting service requests and work orders for your facility is simple and easy with our online request portal. Principals, administrators and network chiefs are invited to log into the portal to submit service requests.

Services

The mission of Staffing Operations Management is to ensure schools are safe, warm, dry, and are an environment that CPS students and staff can thrive in. The Facilities Staffing team provides Board custodians to each CPS school and manages both Privatized and Board custodians throughout their career as a Facilities staff member.

The following services are managed by the Staffing Operations Management discipline under the Department of Facilities.

  • Recruiting & Staffing

    For each CPS school, we provide adequate Board custodial staffing. Oftentimes we partner with Principals and Building managers to ensure schools are receiving the type of help that is needed for their particular location.

  • Non Employee (Vendor Employee) Onboarding

    We serve as a liaison between various departments and Facilities Vendors to ensure vendor employees are not held up in the onboarding process.

    • Safety & Security - Background checks concerns
    • Information Technology - Non employee email accounts
    • Payroll - Kronos IDs and Kronos Access
  • Payroll and Time Management

    Manage and assist in the approval process for Board custodians time/payroll issues and concerns. Support Building Managers in overtime payment processing.

  • Employee management/discipline

    Advise and direct Building managers on employee behavioral and performance issues. Ensure custodians and engineers are compliant with the rules, regulations, and work responsibilities of CPS.

  • Employee Evaluation

    Oversee and review CPS’ Evaluation process for custodians every school year on a quarterly basis. We provide Building managers with the necessary training to guarantee accuracy.

  • Board Custodial Transfer Process

    Manage the annual transfer process for Board custodians who are interested in relocating to another school. Coordinate with Vendor HR Managers to make certain the transition is seamless.

  • Training/Professional Development

    Create training material and modules for the Facilities team. Collaborate and consult with CPS Departments as well as Facilities vendors on training materials and logistics.

  • Board Custodial Internal Promotion Program

    Oversee and manage the promotion program for Board custodians. This is an employee recognition incentive that permits the top performing Board custodians to be promoted to a Lead custodian role. Coordinate with CPS Departments and Vendor Building Managers regarding effective date and pay.
