Environmental Health and Safety Services

Environmental Health and Safety Services is responsible for developing and promoting strong environmental policy to protect the environment of our schools and surrounding areas, and maintaining and operating safe and healthy education spaces and workplaces for our students, faculty staff and guests.

For facilities emergency requests requiring immediate action to address facilities situations that present immediate or imminent danger to life, health, safety, security or significant damage to buildings, equipment or other property, please call the CPS Facilities Service Center at 1-833-575-3020. Do not continue with this request online. The call center will immediately create this service request on your behalf. For all other requests please complete the online request form.

Submitting service requests and work orders for your facility is simple and easy with our online request portal. Principals, administrators and network chiefs are invited to log into the portal to submit service requests.

Services

Environmental Health and Safety Services is responsible for developing and promoting strong environmental policy to protect the environment of our schools and surrounding areas, and maintaining and operating safe and healthy educational spaces and workplaces for our students, faculty, staff and guests. EHS ensures that the district’s schools and facilities are healthy and safe and in compliance with applicable environmental regulations. T

The following is a summary of Environmental Health and Safety Services managed by the District:

  • Asbestos Management

    Testing, abatement; IDPH/CDPH notifications; Notice to Occupants (NTO) and Owner Authorization (OA) letters; Asbestos Management Plans; Six Month Asbestos Surveys; 3 Year Asbestos Re-Inspections; awareness training; AHERA/annual notifications and reporting.

  • Lead-Based Paint Management

    Testing, mitigation, CDPH notifications; Notice to Occupants (NTO) and Owner Authorization (OA) letters; ventilation mitigation projects and reporting.

  • Mold Management

    Testing; assessments; abatement and reporting.

  • Indoor Air Quality Management

    Program management; annual assessments, building engineer assessments; reporting; odor complaint investigations.

  • Drinking Water Management

    Lead Testing – program management; testing; reporting; school notification of sample results; new fixture sampling and reporting.

  • Respiratory Protection Program Management

    Program management, medical monitoring and annual fit testing.

  • Soil Disposal Management

    Waste profile applications and CCDD soil disposal certifications.

  • Engineered Barrier Inspections

    Inspections of engineered barriers installed at District facilities.

  • Chemical Laboratory Waste Management

    Inventory and disposal of chemical waste.

  • Underground Storage Tank Management

    Assessments; removal and reporting.

  • Managing Environmental Consultants (MECs)

    Program management of three environmental consultants that manage environmental services for the District.
