Services

Energy and Sustainability Services collectively help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions and aim to reduce carbon emissions and address climate impact by collaborating with local partners, including utility energy efficiency programs, intergovernmental agreements, and recycling and compost programs.

The following services are managed by the Energy and Sustainability Services discipline under the Department of Facilities.

  • Energy Efficiency

To increase energy efficiency, the Department works with internal and external stakeholders to implement a project that relies on improved technology, maintenance, and design strategies to achieve energy savings.

  • Information Technology

Deploying Building Automation Systems (BAS) to enable facility managers to save energy and increase operational efficiencies through the Virtual Commissioning (VCx) program.

  • Utilities Management

Utility management includes billing, benchmarking, account management, and data collection for reporting electricity and natural gas consumption. Vendors submitting Energy Efficiency (EE) applications to ComEd or Peoples Gas must contact the team to obtain account information.

  • Renewable Energy

CPS focuses on reducing our carbon footprint and deploying renewable energy resources throughout our portfolio. See CPS Goes Solar! Program

  • Waste Management, Recycling, and Composting

CPS manages and educates about recycling, composting, and waste diversion, resulting in not only less waste sent to landfills but cleaner communities and local jobs.

  • Transportation

CPS Energy and Sustainability seeks opportunities to implement electrification of commercial vehicles (school buses and field vehicles).

  • Educational Outreach

As part of our CPS Energy and Sustainability Program, we focus on educating students about all aspects of solar energy, panels, installations, energy audits, and careers and developing a sense of possibility for future jobs in clean energy.
