The number of students who live in the Bronzeville / South Lakefront region has decreased by 1,188 students (7.0%) since 2018-19, which is less than the 8.6% citywide decline. The K-8th grade population has decreased by 8.4% (less than the 11.6% decrease in total CPS K-8th grade student enrollment) and the 9th-12th grade population has decreased by 1.7% (about the same as the 1.1% decrease in total CPS 9th-12th grade student enrollment).

The number of students enrolled in the region has decreased by 1,458 students (7.3%), which is less than the student population decline in the district. For the past four years, there have been consistently more students enrolled in the region than living in the region. K-8 enrollment in the region has decreased by 8.0% and 9-12 enrollment has decreased by 3.7%.

There are 13,854 more seats than students enrolled in the region, including 6,621 elementary school seats and 7,233 high school seats.

Total Pre-K Seats and Enrollment

In the Bronzeville / South Lakefront region, there are 1,258 Pre-K seats, 76% of which are in full-day programs and 24% in half-day programs.

In the Bronzeville / South Lakefront region, there were 866 students enrolled in Pre-K as of the 20th day of school (September 27th, 2021), 77% of which were in a full-day program. 76% of Pre-K students were 4-year-olds, while 24% were 3-year-olds. Options High School Student Choice Over Time

Options high schools serve students who need a new pathway toward high school graduation. CPS schools offer additional supports and services for students who have been out of school and seek to return or who may need opportunities to earn credits in an accelerated program. Some of CPS’ campuses offer additional supports such as counseling and alternative schedules for students who may work during the traditional school day.

Options high schools exist in every region except the Greater Lincoln Park and Far Southwest Side regions. Options high schools do not have attendance zones or admission criteria although many serve only students 16 years and older. Students can choose to attend any Options high school within or outside of their home region. For this reason, Choice patterns tend to differ for Options students compared to elementary and other high school students.
